Professional Registration and Accreditation
The term "Child Psychotherapist" is not protected by legislation, which means it can be difficult for families to assess the level of competence and professional training of those who offer therapy to children and young people.
I am a member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) who is the main professional body for child and adolescent psychotherapists in the UK. All members must have demonstrated the competencies required for qualification and meet its high standards for registration. I adhere to the Association of Child Psychotherapists Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics. I am Enhanced DBS checked.
The Public Standards Authority (PSA) is an independent body and is accountable to the UK parliament. They assess and accredit the registers of health and social care organisations so the public can be confident when choosing health and care practitioners. The Association of Child Psychotherapists is accredited by the PSA and is assessed every three years to ensure it meets the high standards required for holding a register. You can find further information about the Association of Child Psychotherapists Register and Standards here. Child psychotherapists must continue to have supervision and undertake continued professional development post qualification to maintain registration.
Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists are highly skilled mental health professionals who work with children, young people, and their families. When seeking a therapist for your child, I recommend you ask the clinician for details about their professional registration and accreditation. Should you have any further queries about my training, please do not hesitate to ask me by getting in touch.
