Supervision for Children's Social Care, Youth Offending Teams ~ Criminal Justice Agencies.
Practitioners working in children's social care, youth offending teams, and criminal justice agencies work in a highly pressurised environments where they work with some of the most vulnerable children, young people and families in society. As a result, workers often witness high levels of trauma, manage high-risk and challenging situations, undertake complex assessments, and make difficult decisions. While their role offers a supportive function to help improve the lives of children and families, they can often face unbridled hostility and aggression in the course of their daily work.
Supervision offers an opportunity to slow down thinking and explore some of the feelings stirred in the worker. It provides a safe place for thinking about the meaning underlying what can often be very distressing and provoking behaviour.
Discussion can also explore challenges in the working relationships with the child, family, and the dynamics in the professional network and give meaning to what these might be communicating. We can also think about what might help support and contain the work process.
I also provide support and guidance to contact supervisors, family support workers, practitioners working with children on the edge of care, and staff working in residential settings.
